Greening McGill

Greening McGill

Hi everyone,

This is both an email with details about the gault trip and the minutes from our first meeting of the year.

Gault:

Payment:
If you have not yet paid your $25, please pay at Burnside Basement (the area with the couches and tables) either between 1:30 and 2:30 on Monday the 8th or between 10:30 and 11:30 on Tuesday, the 9th. Sophie will be there on Monday and I'll be there on Tuesday. We'll have a sign that says "Greening McGill" incase there's anybody who won't recognize us. If you haven't paid us or contacted us to work out an alternative arrangement by 11:30 on Tuesday, we will assume you're no longer interested in going, and we might give your spot to someone else.

Transportation:
We're all going in the van that Derina is renting and driving. We will meet at Gertz at 5:15 on Friday, the 12th. People can grab food for dinner at Gertz or bring their own food for dinner. Derina will pick us up at 5:30. On Sunday, we need to leave the chalet by noon, so after breakfast we'll tidy up then get out of there and be back at McGill in the early afternoon. Derina will drop people off at the Roddick gates unless we're going past your house, in which case you can be dropped off closer.
Marianne Marcoux is asking her prof who goes to Gault every day to give us directions.

Meals:
Everyone has been assigned to a group, and each group is responsible for preparing one meal for everyone. Here are the groups:

Saturday breakfast: Marianne Corvellec (marianne.corvellec@mail.mcgill.ca) and David Gray-Donald (david.gray-donald@mail.mcgill.ca)

Saturday lunch: Katie Lund (katie.lund@mail.mcgill.ca), Derina (derina.man@mail.mcgill.ca) and Emma (Derina's roommate--I don't know her email)

Saturday dinner: Saima (saima.sidik@mail.mcgill.ca), Michelle (fonanne@yahoo.ca) and Marianne Marcoux (marianne.marcoux@mail.mcgill.ca)

Sunday breakfast: Tim (timothy.dowling@mail.mcgill.ca), Mary (maryzzz@gmail.com) and Warren (warren.huard@mail.mcgill.ca)

Snacks: Boe (bo.liu2@mail.mcgill.ca) and Sarah (Sarah--I don't seem to have your email, so please email Boe!)

Please include drinks with your meal. The Saturday lunch group should probably concentrate on portable food like sandwiches incase we want to go on a long hike. You can buy food before we leave the city or at the grocery store near the reserve--whichever you prefer.

Activities:
Everyone please bring board games, instruments, balls for sports, music and boom boxes/stereos/ghetto blasters if you have them. Marianne is bringing paint to make Greening McGill t-shirts, so please bring a white shirt. Also, be sure to bring boots and lots of extra clothes as we'll probably want to go outside and it will probably be wet. Tim would like to do some knitting, so if you have needles and yarn, bring them. Derina is organizing a game of murder, which is a weekend-long game that she'll explain in more detail when we get there.

Miscellaneous:
Everyone should bring a sleeping bag and a pillow.
This event is BYOB.

That's it for gault!

Other news;

The plate Club:
Derina is checking out prices on second-hand cutlery and asking Trevor about the possibility of storing all the materials in SSMU.
I will bring the logo that Sunny made to the next meeting for everyone to see, and we can talk about whether or not we'd like to put it on our cups.

Activities Night:
Activities night is Jan. 11th. Here's the lineup:
4-6: Saima and Sophie
6-8: Derina and Warren.
I will go to QPIRG beforehand and get tabling materials.

Lug-A-Mug:
We'll start giving cookies away to people who bring their own mugs again next Friday. Gabrielle will call the organic cafe at her old sejep and ask where they get their cookies. We'll organize shifts next week.

Kyoto's Birthday:
Kyoto's birthday is Feb. 16th, and we'd like to do something in conjunction with other campus groups to celebrate. Ideas include a birthday cake, showing An Inconvenient Truth again and a debate among the campus political groups.

QPIRG Movie month:
QPIRG is asking its working groups to show movies, so we need to come up with a good environmentally related one. We'll probably show the Recycling Documentary that was made over the summer by two MSE graduates, but that's short, so we could show something else, too. Ideas include: The End of Suburbia and Oil On Ice. Everyone should try to think of other good enviro-movies.

Notebooks:
We need to be more aggressive about collecting scrap paper for our one-sided notebooks because there's a big demand for them. I will write to various people and ask them to put an announcement on their list servs. Next meeting, we'll make signs to put in the photocopy rooms where the boxes are in order to make them more noticeable.

General Assembly:
A bunch of campus groups are planning to bring the idea of a sustainability policy to this semester's GA. This means we need to publicize a lot. We're thinking of tabling, writing letters to the editor, postering, doing class announcements and advertising at Midnight Kitchen and activities night. Stay tuned for more information!

Take care everyone,
Saima
